Since the early 2000s critical food studies have become a burgeoning academic field in Poland. In the special issue we want to demonstrate both the thematic scope and theoretical directions present in the works produced by scholars working on Poland, as well as Polish researchers working on other regions. We invite submissions which fit the thematic and territorial scope of the call for papers. We are especially interested in papers that present a clear methodological reflection and those based on original research.

Potential themes we seek to address in this special issue include:

  • the methodology of critical food studies
  • (post)socialist foodways in EU and beyond
  • changing food tastes and patterns of food consumption
  • the cultural politics of feeding /nourishing
  • memory, identity and nostalgia – anthropology of food and emotions
  • gendered food(ways)
  • the re-invention and/or gentrification of local/regional/national food(ways)
  • the heritagization of food and foodways
  • culinary tourism and culinary cosmopolitanism
  • food and the ethics of eating
  • alternative food networks
  • food sovereignty, food citizenship, food justice
  • food and migration.
