Representation of the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology in Warsaw at the EASA 2026 conference in Poznań
This year’s conference of the European Association of Social Anthropologists [1] (EASA) provided an excellent opportunity to present ongoing research and educational initiatives, exchange ideas, and establish new connections with anthropologists from around the world. Our Institute was represented by an exceptionally large group of researchers.
Sergio Gonzalez Varela co-organised the roundtable discussion “Spirituality in a Divided World: Rethinking Healing, Difference, and Coexistence” and chaired the panel “Circular care: experiencing infinity/eternity in the small gestures of life [Muslim Worlds Network (MWN)]”.
Anna Horolets [2] co-organised the roundtable discussion “Climate policy and action in cities: recalibrations of a polarised issue”.
Agata Hummel co-organised the lab “Zine-Making as Anthropological Method and Speculative Praxis: Between Vernacularization, Situated Knowledges and Co-Created Futures”.
Agnieszka Kościańska [3] co-organised and participated in the roundtable discussion „Struggles for decriminalising and demedicalising abortion in contemporary Europe: the Polish Abortion Dream Team”.
In addition, papers were presented in various panels by Paweł Bagiński, Agnieszka Caban, Agata Hummel, Agnieszka Kościańska [3], Amanda Krzyworzeka [4], Julia Kunikowska, Ewa Maciejewska-Mroczek [5], Magdalena Radkowska-Walkowicz [6], Anna Malewska-Szałygin [7], Dominika Nikiel, Joanna Połeć, Tomasz Rakowski [8], Marcin Skupiński, Jaro Stacul, and Anna Wieczorkiewicz [9].
Helena Patzer represented the journal "Ethnologia Polona" in the discussion "From Submission to Publication: What Editors Want You to Know," as well as the "Ethnographic Laboratory" Association in the NGO Zone (alongside Milena Orlińska and Aleksandra Tarka).
Volunteers also included individuals affiliated with our Institute: Katarzyna Woźny, Sonia Sadowska and Stanisław Szyszkowski.
We would like to thank the organisers for this inspiring event. The Institute of Anthropology and Ethnology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, host of this year’s EASA conference, created an excellent space for meaningful encounters and engaging discussions.
