Totalidad y vacío de sentido: la experiencia de lo innombrable en la antropología [Totality and emptiness of meaning: The experience of the unnamable in Anthropology]

Resumen

El presente artículo tiene por objetivo analizar el tema de lo innombrable o inefable en la antropología. Dicho concepto se refiere a la dificultad para dar cuenta de ciertos contextos de experiencia individual y colectiva de carácter intenso que suelen surgir en contextos rituales, espirituales y religiosos, para desafiar todo intento de racionalización. La totalidad o vacío de sentido aparece como un problema al dar cuenta de aquello que escapa a la representación lógica del orden social. El texto describe cómo la experiencia de lo innombrable aparece también en el dominio del arte y la experiencia estética e indaga cómo ha sido tratado este problema dentro de la filosofía continental ligada a la fenomenología y el posestructuralismo. Finalmente, el artículo analiza el papel de la poesía como un lenguaje privilegiado para expresar aquello que no tiene nombre, que carece de sentido aparente y que se presenta ante la inmediatez de la conciencia. Es por medio de la poesía que se puede retener el proceso fugaz de la experiencia de lo oculto e innombrable en su dimensión existencial y antropológica.

Abstract in English

This article aims to analyze the issue of the unnamable or ineffable in Anthropology. This concept refers to the difficulty to inform in certain contexts of individual and collective experience of an intense nature that often arise in ritual, spiritual, and religious places and defy in many ways any attempt of rationalization. The totality or emptiness of meaning appears as a problem to account for that which escapes the logical representation of the social order. The text describes how the unnamable experience also appears in the art and aesthetic experience domain and investigates how this problem has been treated within continental Philosophy linked to Phenomenology and Poststructuralism. Finally, the article analyzes poetry’s role as a privileged language to express which has no name, lacks apparent meaning, and presents itself to consciousness’s immediacy. It is through poetry that it is possible to retain the fleeting process of the experience of the hidden and unnamable in its existential and anthropological dimension.
