On 25 September 2025, at the 36th International Anthropology and History Book Fair (36 Feria Internacional del Libro de Antropología e Historia), the book launch of Sergio González Varela’s Resistir: hacia una antropología de la resiliencia [Resisting: Towards an Anthropology of Resilience] will take place. The event will be held at the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City at 15:00 local time.

About the book:

What does it mean to resist when everything seems lost?
In a world marked by precarity, exclusion, and violence, this book offers a profound anthropological perspective on human resilience.
Far from idealizations or simplistic readings, Sergio González Varela explores how individuals and communities confront adversity in its many forms: from urban marginality in Mexico City to forced migrations, from racial exclusion in the Black Atlantic to the everyday tragedies of global neoliberalism.
With lucid and committed prose, the author weaves together ethnography, philosophy, and cultural critique to show that resisting is not only about surviving, but also about imagining and creating dignified ways of life, even amid exhaustion.
Resilience thus emerges as a political and existential act: an affirmation of the body, of connection, of memory, and of desire.
„Resistir” is an urgent invitation to think about the human from its rawest—and at the same time, most vital—margins.
