Dr Jaro Stacul

I hold a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge. I focus on issues of populism, migration, and the state in Europe (Italy and Poland), and I have held positions in various academic and research institutions in Australia, Britain, Bulgaria, and Canada. I have recently carried out long-term fieldwork, funded by the Wenner-Gren Foundation, on populism in Poland, and I have subsequently undertaken a new project on the Polish diaspora in Australia as Ada Booth Research Fellow at Monash University. Currently, I am carrying out a research project, funded by Acadia University, which explores the ways undergraduate students in Atlantic Canada balance work and study. My publications include the monograph 'The bounded field: Localism and local identity in an Italian Alpine valley', the book (co-edited with Christina Moutsou and helen Kopnina) 'Crossing European boundaries: Beyond conventional geographical categories', as well as articles in refereed journals.
